Belgian politician. Born April 5, 1943, in St. Niklaas, Belgium.
Served as chair of the European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (1995–97), member of the House of Representatives (1978–95), member of the Senate (1995), minister of Employment, Labour and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women (1992–99); minister of state (2002); as a member of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats, elected to 5th European Parliament (1999–2004). Awarded Knight of the Order of Leopold (1985) and Grosses Verdienstkreuz mit Stern (2002).
