Slavikova, Ludmila (1890–1943)

Czech geologist. Name variations: Ludmila Slávíkova; Ludmila Slavikova-Kaplanova. Born Ludmila Kaplanova, Feb 23, 1890, in Prague, Czechoslovakia; died at Auschwitz, Feb 18, 1943; Charles University in Prague, PhD in math and physics, 1914; m. Frantisek Slávík (professor), 1917.

Noted geologist, researched crystals (in Bohemian pyrargyrite); with husband, wrote a monograph about Ordovician iron ores in Bohemia; wrote papers on the history of the National Museum's mineral collections in Prague and headed its department of Mineralogy and Petrology (1921–39); with husband, was arrested by the Nazis and taken to Auschwitz (1943), where she died 14 days later.
