Pope, Jane (1742–1818)
English actress. Born 1742; died July 30, 1818; dau. of a London theatrical wigmaker.
Began career in a Lilliputian company for David Garrick (1756), at age 14, then quickly shifted into ingenue roles; originated the part of Mrs. Candour in The School for Scandal (1777) and thereafter tackled many other important parts.
