Plá, Mirta (1940–2003)

Cuban ballet dancer. Born July 23, 1940, in Havana, Cuba; died of cancer, Sept 21, 2003, in Barcelona, Spain.

Trained with Fernando and Alicia Alonso, Mary Skeaping, and others; made professional debut in Ballet Alicia Alonso (1953); danced with Ballet Nacional de Cuba where she served as understudy to Alonso in such works as Les Sylphides and Giselle; performed in contemporary works, including Alberto Mendez's Plasmosis (1970); served as company teacher at Ballet Nacional; became a dance instructor in Barcelona. Received Cuba's National Dance Prize (2003).
