Immigrated to Switzerland (1945) and lived in New York (early 50s); works include Harmloses, bitte (1970), Heiliger Sebastian (1973), and Valerie oder Das unerzogene Auge (1986). Received several awards including Ingeborg Bachmann Prize and Berliner Prize.
