African-American actress and singer. Born Audra Ann McDonald, July 3, 1970, in Berlin, Germany; grew up in Fresno, CA; graduate of Juilliard, 1993; m. Peter Donovan (bass player), 2000; children: Zoe Madeline Donovan (b. 2001).
The only performer in theater history to win 3 Tony's for 1st 3 shows: Carousel (1994), Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998); had 1st starring role in Marie Christine (1999), for which she was nominated for a Tony; also won a Tony for A Raisin in the Sun (2004); on tv, appeared on "Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years" (1999), "Annie" (1999) and "Wit" (2001); films include Tea Time with Roy & Sylvia (2003).
