Argentinean novelist, playwright and short-story writer. Name variations: (pseudonyms) Daniel García Mansilla, Alvar. Born 1838 in Buenos Aires, Argentina; died 1892; m. Manuel Rafael García (diplomat).
Published 1st novel, El médico de San Luis (1860), which was based on Goldsmith's The Vicar of Wakefield, under son's name (Daniel García Mansilla); traveled with diplomat husband in US and Europe; held salon for writers and intellectuals in Buenos Aires; other works include Lúcia Miranda (1860), Pablo où la vie dans les pampas (1869), La marquesa de Altamira (1881), and Creaciones (1883).
