Mallinger, Mathilde (1847–1920)

Croatian soprano . Born in Zagreb on February 17, 1847; died in Berlin, Germany, on April 19, 1920; studied in Prague with Gordigiani and Vogl, in Vienna with Loewy.

Mathilde Mallinger made her debut in Munich as Norma in 1866; she remained there until 1868, singing Elsa, Elisabeth, and the first Eva. Mallinger appeared in Berlin from 1869 until her retirement in 1882. After that, she taught singing in Prague, where one of her students was Lotte Lehmann . A great rivalry between Mallinger and Pauline Lucca resulted in their both appearing in Figaro in 1872.
