Lawrence, Carol (1932–)

American dancer and actress. Born Carolina Maria Laraia, Sept 5, 1932, in Melrose Park, IL; m. Cosmo Allegretti, 1955 (div. 1959); m. Robert Goulet (singer), 1963 (div. 1981); m. Greg Guydus, 1982 (div. 1983); children: (2nd m.) 2.

Worked with Chicago Opera Ballet in Illinois as adolescent; moved to New York City where she made professional debut in Borscht Capades of 1951; appeared on Broadway in New Faces of 1952, on tour with Me and Juliet (1954), in replacement cast of Plain and Fancy (1955) and in Shangri-La (1956) and Ziegfeld Follies (1956); came to prominence as the original Maria in West Side Story; also appeared in Subways Are for Sleeping, Saratoga, I Do! I Do!, and Kiss of the Spiderwoman; appeared frequently on tv variety shows, was a regular on ABC's "General Hospital" and had her own talk show.
