African-American poet. Name variations: Pinkie Gordon. Born 1923 in Philadelphia, PA; dau. of William Alexander Gordon and Innez Addie West Gordon; Atlanta University, MA; was the 1st black woman to receive a PhD from Louisana State University (1967); m. Ulysses Simpson Lane; children: 1.
Served as poet laureate to Louisiana (1989); works include Wind Thoughts (1972), The Mystic Female (1978), I Never Scream: New and Selected Poems (1985), and Girl at the Window (1991). Inducted into Louisiana Black Hall of Fame (1991).
