Queen of Naples. Name variations: Isabel, Isabella, Isabelle or Isabeau de Lorraine; Isabel of Bar. Born around 1410 in Lorraine, France; died in 1453 in Anjou; daughter of Charles II, duke of Lorraine, and Margaret of Bavaria; married René I the Good (1408–1480), duke of Lorraine and Bar, duke of Provence, duke of Anjou and Guise, and later king of Naples; children: John II (1424–1470), duke of Calabria; Margaret of Anjou (1429–1482); Yolande of Vaudemont (1428–1483, who married Frederick of Vaudemont).

Isabelle of Lorraine was a bold French duchess and military leader. She was born around 1410, the daughter of Charles II, duke of Lorraine, and Margaret of Bavaria . Isabelle married René I the Good, duke of Anjou, as a young woman, and was the mother of Margaret of Anjou . Like many educated noblewomen of her age, Isabelle patronized the arts and helped endow several colleges. When a rival noble kidnapped her husband, Isabelle gathered an army from among her vassals. She rode at its head and was responsible for gaining her husband's release. She also served as René's regent after he conquered Sicily, and held the title of queen of Naples. A year after Isabelle's death in 1453, René married Jeanne de Laval (d. 1498).
