Havoc, June (1916–)

American actress and writer. Name variations: Baby June. Born Ellen Evangeline Hovick, Nov 8, 1916, in Seattle, WA; dau. of John Hovick and Anna Thompson Hovick, known as Rose Hovick; sister of Gypsy Rose Lee (1914–1970); married at 13; m. William Spier (director).

Began performing in vaudeville at 8 with sister; left the act (1929); appeared in such films as My Sister Eileen (1942), Brewster's Millions (1945), Gentleman's Agreement (1947), The Iron Curtain (1948), Lady Possessed (1952), The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover (1977) and Can't Stop the Music (1980), but had more success on NY stage in Pal Joey (1940) and Mexican Hayride, for which she won a Donaldson Award (1944); also wrote and directed I, Said the Fly and successful Broadway play Marathon 33, starring Julie Harris.
