Australian swimmer. Name variations: Shane Innes. Born Shane Elizabeth Gould, Nov 23, 1956, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; dau. of Shirley Gould (who wrote the 1972 book Swimming the Shane Gould Way); m. Neil Innes, 1974.
Won the 100-meter freestyle at New South Wales championships (1972) as well as 13 other Australian indiv. championships and 3 relay championships; won gold medals in the 200-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle and 200-meter individ. medley, a silver medal in the 800-meter freestyle, and a bronze medal in the 100-meter freestyle, all at Munich Olympics (1972).
