First Social Security recipient in America. Born Sept 6, 1874, in Ludlow, Vermont; died Jan 27, 1975, in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Served as clerk for John G. Sargent who later became attorney general under President Calvin Coolidge; retired and became 1st American to receive Social Security check (1940).
