Duncan, Maria Teresa (1895–1987)
German interpretive dancer. Born Theresa Kruger, 1895, in Dresden, Germany; died 1987.
Trained with school of Isadora and Elizabeth Duncan in Grunewald, Germany (starting c. 1905); traveled to US to perform as 1 of 6 Isadorables on Sol Hurok tour; returned to Europe (1920), where she performed recitals—mainly Greek dances—with own group Meliconades; created most works based on music interpretation and often dedicated whole concerts to single composers including Schubert and Chopin; retired from performance career for around 3 decades (1940s), but returned to great success with Isadora Duncan Heritage Dance Group (1978), performing—among other works—a demanding Adagio to Beethoven's Seventh Symphony.
