Charlotte (1516–1524)
French princess. Born in 1516; died at age eight in 1524; daughter of Claude de France (1499–1524) and Francis, duc d'Angoulême, later Francis I, king of France (r. 1515–1547).
Upon the death of eight-year-old Charlotte in 1524, her aunt Margaret of Angoulême wrote an essay in her honor titled: A dialogue in the form of a nocturnal vision between the right honourable and excellent Princess, my Lady Marguerite of France, only sister of our Sire the King, by the grace of God Queen of Navarre and Duchess of Alençon and Berry, and the Holy Soul of the deceased Madame Charlotte of France, eldest daughter of the said Sire and niece of the said Lady and Queen.
