American director and screenwriter. Born Nov 27, 1951, in San Carlos, California; attended San Francisco Art Institute; graduate of Columbia Film School; m. James Cameron (film director), 1989 (div. 1991).
As director, films include The Set-Up (1978), The Loveless (1982, also wrote screenplay), Near Dark (1987, also wrote screenplay), Blue Steel (1990, also wrote screenplay), Point Break (1991), Strange Days (1995), The Weight of Water (2000) and K-19: The Widowmaker (2002); also directed 4-part miniseries, "Wild Palms" (1993).
