American environmentalist. Name variations: Mollie H. Beattie. Born April 27, 1947; died of a brain tumor, June 27, 1996, in Townshend, Vermont; dau. of Pat Beattie; earned degree in forestry from University of Vermont; Harvard University, MA in public administration; m. Rich Schwolsky.
Was commissioner of Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation; was the 1st woman director of the Fish and Wildlife Service (1993–96); during her tenure, added 15 wildlife refuges, saw 100 conservation habitat plans agreed on between landowners and the government, and introduced the gray wolf into the Northern Rockies.
