Bartet, Jeanne Julia (1854–1941)

French actress. Born Jeanne Julia Regnault in Paris, France, in 1854; died in 1941; trained at the Conservatoire.

In 1872, Jeanne Julia Bartet began a successful career at the Vaudeville. Seven years later, she was engaged at the Comédie Française, of which she became a sociétaire (shareholder) in 1880. For many years, Bartet played leading parts both in tragedy and comedy; her elegance and grand style made her supreme among the younger actresses on the French stage. Her talents were also displayed for a season in London in 1908.
