Richard L. Burdsall

1899-1953

American mountaineer and engineer. A member of the 1932 Sikong expedition, along with A. Emmons, T. Moore, and J. Young, Burdsall traveled to the Amne Machin Range along the Chinese-Tibetan border, then thought to have peaks in excess of 30,000 feet (9,144 m). They climbed, mapped, and measured Minya Konka (24,790 feet or 7,556 m) and corrected the measurement taken by Joseph Rock in 1929, as well as collecting zoological and botanical specimens for the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
