Nicholas Revett
1720-1804
English architect who, with the artist James "Athenian" Stuart, traveled to Athens to survey and draw the monuments and classical antiquities. Upon returning to England they were admitted to the Society of Dilettanti, whose members aided them in publishing The Antiquities of Athens (1761). Jealous that Stuart received the lion's share of the credit, Revett broke with him. Revett later surveyed the antiquities of Asia Minor.
