American mathematical physicist who made pioneering advances in the study of chaotic systems. Feigenbaum found that systems show consistent patterns as they verge towards chaos. These patterns are now known as Feigenbaum numbers. Chaos theory attempts to deal with complex natural events such as weather patterns, fluid dynamics, and the movement of quantum particles.
