Domenico Cotugno

Italian physician best known for his investigations into the structure of the inner ear. In a paper published in 1761, Cotugno wrote the first detailed description of the inner ear, its different parts, and how they function. This was followed by a description of the role of certain nerves in causing sneezes, a description of some afflictions of the sciatic nerve (which helps control the legs), and more.
