Adriaan van den Spieghel

1578-1625

Belgian physician who studied in Padua, taught anatomy and surgery, and like Vesalius came from Brussels. Spieghel wrote on fevers and botanical subjects. His anatomical texts, De Humani Corporis Fabrici (1627), and on the development of the fetus, De Formato Foetu (1626), were neither illustrated nor published during his lifetime. In his will, he asked that Bucretius perform the necessary tasks to do both. The plates in Spieghel's books were acquired from Giulio Casserio's relatives.
