trochophore In several invertebrates (including Polychaeta and Mollusca), a ciliated, usually planktonic larva. The larva is almost spherical, with a ciliated band around its equator and mouth that give it a spinning motion, like a top. The cilia are also used for feeding. Animals which have a trochophore in their life history are believed to be related.
