Trogus (Cnaeus Pompeius Trogus) (trō´gəs), fl. AD 5, Roman historian of Gallic origin. His history of the world, which survives only in excerpts by Justin, dealt with Assyria, Persia, Greece, Macedon and the other Hellenistic kingdoms, Rome, Gaul, and Spain. His source was independent of the patriotic tradition of other Roman historians.
