Schilbeidae (superorder Ostariophysi, order Siluriformes) A family of freshwater catfish that have a scaleless, elongate body, strongly tapering towards the tail, a short dorsal fin, a long-based anal fin, and four pairs of barbels around the mouth. There are about 40 species, in African and Indian waters. See also PANGASIIDAE.
