plectostele A dictyostele type of protostele in which in cross-section the xylem and phloem may form parallel, interwoven bands. The term is also applied to modified actinosteles where the phloem strands separate the arms of the star-shaped xylem. Compare ATACTOSTELE, EUSTELE, and POLYSTELE.
