Hygrophorus (family Hygrophoraceae) A genus of fungi, in which the mushroom-like fruit bodies are white, pale-coloured, or brown, and have slimy or greasy caps, and waxy gills. There are many species. They are found in woodland, where they form mycorrhizal associations with trees.
