Hexanchidae (cow shark; subclass Elasmobranchii, order Hexanchiformes) A small family of marine sharks, typically with a single, spineless dorsal fin, an anal fin, and six or seven gill slits which are not continuous across the throat. There are about five species, distributed world-wide.
