Delphinoidea (order Cetacea, suborder Odontoceti) A superfamily that comprises the families Delphinidae, Phocoenidae, Stenidae, and Monodontidae, a large group of small cetaceans with teeth in both jaws and usually a prominent dorsal fin. Most are active predators, but Sousa (the white or long-backed dolphin), of the coasts and rivers of the Old World tropics, is herbivorous.
