animal pole
animal pole The end (or pole) of an egg that contains the most cytoplasm and the least yolk. It is also the point on the surface of the egg that is nearest to its nucleus. The opposite end is called the vegetal pole. These two poles form the anchor points from which spindle fibres extend to attach to the centromere of each of the two homologous chromosomes during cell division.
