Seneca the Elder°
SENECA THE ELDER°
SENECA THE ELDER ° (Annaeus Seneca ; c. 55 b.c.e.–40 c.e.), Roman rhetorician. He was the father of Seneca the Younger, the philosopher, and the grandfather of the poet Lucan. He mentions a Sosius who had suppressed the Jews (Suasoria 2:21). There are grounds for believing that this was the Gaius Sosius who had supported Herod against *Antigonus.
