KAGAN, SOLOMON ROBERT

KAGAN, SOLOMON ROBERT (1889–1955), U.S. medical historian. Kagan was born in Orany, Lithuania, of a prominent rabbinic family. He was ordained as a rabbi but turned to medicine. He emigrated to the United States in 1922 and practiced in Boston. He was the author of many books including Researches in Hebrew Literature (2 vols. 1929–30), American Jewish Physicians of Note (1942), Jewish Contributions to Medicine in America (1934), Leaders of Medicine (1941), The Modern Medical World (1945), Fielding H. Garrison; a biography (1948), and Jewish Medicine (1952).
