AMALRIC AUGERIUS

Fourteenth century historian and theologian; b. Béziers, France, date unknown; d. after 1362. He was a doctor of theology from the University of montpellier, prior of Santa Maria de Aspirano in the Diocese of Perpignan, and chaplain to urban v. Although he is commonly identified as an augustinian, A. Zumkeller claims that this is uncertain. His only known work, Actus romanorum pontificum a primo usque ad Johannem papam XXII sive annum 1321, is an alphabetical chronicle of the popes, written at Avignon in 1362 (see avignon papacy) and dedicated to Urban V. It has been edited by J. G. Eccard, Corpus historicum medii aevi (Leipzig 1723) 2:16411824, and by L. A. Muratori, Rerum italicarum scriptores (Milan 1734) 3.2.
