Ghāṭ

Ghāṭ. (Hindi; Skt., ghaṭṭa). A place of access, often by means of steps, to a river or lake, etc., for purposes of washing and for ritual cleansing (e.g. in Gaṅgā). Some of these are reserved for dealing with the dead, especially for the dispersal of ashes.
