Vélez-Málaga
Vélez-Málaga (vā´lāth-mä´lägä), town (1990 pop. 54,234), Málaga prov., S Spain, in Andalusia, on the Vélez River. Subtropical in climate, chirimoyas, bananas, olives, grapes, and sugar cane are grown here. Recovered from the Moors by Ferdinand V in 1487, it has a Moorish castle and a fine church, which tradition claims was founded by St. Peter.
