Spinello di Luca Spinelli (spēnĕl´lō dē lōō´kä spēnĕl´lē), c.1346–1410, Italian painter, usually called Spinello Aretino from his birthplace, Arezzo. He was a leading exponent of the late Giottesque style (see Giotto). He painted frescoes of the life of St. Benedict (Church of San Miniato, Florence) that were restored by a later painter, and the history of Pope Alexander III (Palazzo Pubblico, Siena). Several of his altarpieces are in the Academy, Florence; two paintings of the Madonna and Child are in the Fogg Museum, Cambridge; and St. Mary Magdalen is in the Metropolitan Museum.
