Royo Sánchez, Arístides
Arístides Royo Sánchez, 1940–, president of Panama (1978–82). A former minister of education, he was named president by Gen. Omar Torrijos Herrera, the actual ruler of the country. After Torrijos's death (1981), Royo remained in office but encountered increasing opposition from the military, which apparently forced his resignation (1982).
