Kaukauna (kôkô´nə), city (1990 pop. 11,982), Outagamie co., E Wis., on the Fox River; settled 1793, inc. 1885. The city is a processing center for cheese and other dairy products. Its chief manufactures are fabricated metal products and paper. Stone quarries are nearby. A fur-trading post was established on the site by Pierre Grignon in 1760. The Grignon mansion, built 1836–39 on the first land deeded in Wisconsin, has been restored.
