Kaufmann, Friedrich
Kaufmann, Friedrich, German inventor; b. Dresden, Feb. 5, 1785; d. there, Dec. 1, 1866. He invented a trumpet automaton (1808), the Belloneon, the Klaviatur-Harmonichord, the Chordaulodion, and the Symphonion. In 1851 his son, Friedrich Theodor Kaufmann (b. Dresden, April 9, 1823; d. there, Feb. 5, 1872), made an Orchestrion from the Symphonion.
