Bacolod (bäkō´lōd, –lōŧħ), city (1990 pop. 364,180), capital of Negros Occidental prov., NW Negros island, the Philippines. It is an important seaport, the shipping and processing center of the country's major sugarcane-producing area. The Univ. of Negros Occidental-Recoletos is there.
