MERIDOR, DAN (1947–)

Israeli politician. Born in Jerusalem, Dan Meridor holds a law degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He served as cabinet secretary under Menachem Begin (1982–1983) and Yitzhak Shamir (1983–1984). Elected to the Knesset in 1984, Meridor served as minister of justice from 1988 to 1992. In June 1996 he was appointed minister of finance, a post he resigned in June 1997. In 2001 he was appointed minister without portfolio, responsible for national defense and diplomatic strategy; he held this post until February 2003. Meridor serves as the international chairman of the Jerusalem Foundation.
