Prat Echaurren, Jorge (1918–1971)

Jorge Prat Echaurren (b. 24 April 1918; d. 1971), Chilean politician and well-known Conservative. Prat, the grandson of Chile's supreme naval hero Arturo Prat, never sat in Congress, though he served as minister of finance (1954–1955). A man of strong nationalist convictions, he mounted a campaign for the presidency in 1964, for which he formed his own party, the Acción Nacional (November 1963), but later withdrew his candidacy. Failing to win election to the Senate in March 1965, he subsequently led the Acción Nacional into the newly formed National Party in June 1966.
