Pinho, José Wanderley de Araújo (1890–1967)

José Wanderley de Araújo Pinho (b. 1890; d. 1967), Brazillian historian and politician. Born in Santo Amoro, Pinho graduated from the Faculdade de Direito da Bahia. His career began in local law and proceeded to the state's judicial hierarchy and politics. He became a minister of the Tribunal de Contas, a federal deputy, and municipal prefect of Salvador. His avocation for history, signaled by a later post at the Universidade da Bahia and his membership in local and national historical institutes, was first evident in early publications related to the career of his great grandfather, the barão de Cotegipe (1815–1889). His work, based on careful archival research, remains important for an understanding of Second Empire politics and elite society in Bahia and Rio.
