Carrillo Flores, Antonio (1909–1986)

Antonio Carrillo Flores (b. 23 June 1909; d. 20 March 1986), leading political figure in Mexican financial affairs since 1952. Born in Mexico City, he was the son of a famous musician Julián Carrillo. With Miguel Alemán, Carrillo Flores was a member of the 1929 law school graduating class at the National University. From 1946 to 1970 he held a succession of influential political posts, including secretary of the treasury (1952–1958), ambassador to the United States (1958–1964), and secretary of foreign relations (1964–1970). Through his public service and teaching careers he trained two generations of disciples who became mentors to Mexico's new political technocrats of the 1980s and 1990s. He was the brother of the distinguished scientist Nabor Carrillo Flores.
