Southcott's box, Joanna a locked and sealed box said to contain the prophecies of Joanna Southcott, (1750–1814), a former Wesleyan Methodist who announced herself as the woman spoken of in Revelation 12, who is seen ‘clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet’. The box was supposed to be opened in a time of national emergency and in the presence of the Anglican bishops. It was finally opened in 1927; a woman's nightcap and a lottery ticket were among its contents.
