Radegund, St
Radegund, St (518–87), queen of the Franks and wife of Clotaire, son of Clovis; born a princess of Thuringia, she had been captured at the age of twelve and later married to Clotaire. Leaving the court after six years of marriage, she took the veil, and later founded a monastery at Poitiers. Soon after her death, miracles were reported at her tomb; she became one of the first Merovingian saints, and her feast was celebrated in France from the 9th century. Her feast day is 13 August.
