Hansard Colloquial name for the daily record of the proceedings of the British Houses of Parliament. Named after Luke Hansard (1752–1828), printer to the Commons, who compiled unofficial reports, these verbatim records have continued to be referred to as ‘Hansard’, even though the family sold their publishing interest in 1889. The responsibility now rests with The Stationery Office.
