Tryon County, North Carolina

TRYON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA. Named for Governor William Tryon in 1769, it was located in the southwest part of the province and was a Loyalist stronghold for much of the Revolution. In 1779 the North Carolina legislature terminated Tryon County, forming the area into Rutherford and Lincoln Counties.
